Bloomfield Lumentum Factory to Close in March

A manufacturing company will close its Bloomfield facility in June.

Lumentum, formerly JDSU, produces commercial and industrial lasers, optical communications and 3D sensing.

The company is transferring its manufacturing and product development operations from the Bloomfield factory to a Lumentum site elsewhere in the country, according to company communications director Greg Kaufman.

"This action is being taken to continue to optimize the cost structure of the product lines currently manufactured in Bloomfield in order to meet our customers’ future cost expectations and remain competitive in the market," Kaufman said in an email to NBC Connecticut in 2015.

A notice provided to the state Department of Labor says the facility will close in March 2018. One hundred seventy five employees will be affected. The layoffs are taking place between this month and March 2018.
