A family of  five  were rescued after a boating incident in Long Island Sound off Guilford.

The boat hit rocks just north of Faulkner's Island and sank, officials said.

A father and his three adult sons and an 11-year-old child  were pulled from the water at 4:21 p.m., according to Capt. Ken Carnes of Sea Tow.

"Everybody was in the water for approximately 51 minutes, so it was mild hypothermia," said Capt. Mike Shove of the Guilford Fire Department.

Officials said the area near the island is known to be dangerous because of the rocks.

The boat will be recovered using air bags on Thursday, Carnes said.
