Police ID Middletown Man Found Dead in Hartford

Police are investigating his death as a homicide.

Hartford police are investigating the city's third homicide of the year after the body of a Middletown man was found on Woodland Drive early Tuesday morning.

Investigators responded to the area of an apartment complex after a person who was leaving for work just before 1:30 a.m. saw the body and called 911.

Responding officers found the body of 26-year-old Joseph Goiangos with an injury to his chest. After investigation, police determined Goiangos suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.

Goiangos was pronounced dead at the scene and it's not clear how long he was at the scene.

During a news conference, police said his vehicle was not at the scene and they located it in the South End of Hartford.

The Hartford Police Crime Scene Division and Major Crimes Division have taken over the investigation and they are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Editor's Note: Police initially said the injury did not appear to be consistent with a gunshot, but later investigation recovered a small caliber bullet from the body.
