Water Pressure Restored in Danbury

Water pressure has been restored to all of Danbury, according to the mayor, but residents who receive city water are advised to boil it before using.

A break in a 16-inch water line on Tamarack Avenue around 4 p.m. Monday was affecting all water customers east of Main Street, east of North Street up to Route 84 and south to South Street. The issue is also affecting the hospital and Western Connecticut State University.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Danbury crews had identified the broken valve believed to have caused the serious water main break and water was no longer spilling out of the broken portion of the water line.

Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton Tweeted that the city was flying a handmade part in from Buffalo. The special parts flown in from New York might not be needed to fix the problem.

Boughton posted on Facebook Wednesday morning that showering with city water is fine, but residents should use bottled water for teeth brushing and the boil water advisory should be lifted by Thursday.

WestConn remains open, but water on the Midtown campus is not safe to use and bottled water was being distributed, school officials said Wednesday.

Dining services were closed on the Midtown campus, but extra shuttle service was being provided between Midtown and the Westside campus.

A statement on the Danbury Hospital website Tuesday said elective outpatient procedures could be rescheduled to other facilities or dates and times and patients are asked to call ahead to verify your appointment before leaving for the hospital.

Access to the main hospital campus is also disrupted because of closures to Tamarack and Locust avenues.

Hospital employees and patients can access the campus via Osborne Street to the Medical Arts Center Gold/Red Garages and/or via Osborne Street to Hospital Avenue to the Rizzo Garage, according to statement Western Connecticut Health Network, which includes Danbury Hospital.
