Truck Driver Cited After Crash That Closed Charter Oak Bridge in Hartford for Hours

The morning commute through Hartford was a mess Friday after a tractor-trailer hauling laundry detergent hit an underpass just before 5:30 a.m. on the northbound side of the Charter Oak Bridge.

State police said the driver, a 58-year-old Maine man, could not produce a valid license and was charged with operating without a license and failure to keep in proper lane.

Part of the trailer was sheared off in the crash and laundry detergent spilled out onto Route 15, which led to drivers being diverted off the highway and into East Hartford.

No injuries are reported and crews from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was called in.
