When Anita Coullard Dziedzic drives across the Route 2 bridge over Route 94 in Glastonbury, she smiles with pride. It's now named in honor of her son, Sgt. David Coullard, who was killed along with five other Marines while serving as a sniper in Iraq in 2005.
On Wednesday, representatives from U.S. Rep. John Larson's office, along with some state lawmakers, presented Coullard Dziedzic with a commemorative sign in honor of her son.
It's a smaller version of the one on the highway that designates the section as the "Marine Sgt. David Coullard Memorial Bridge."
"Thank you very much," said Coullard Dziedzic as she accepted the sign. "It means so much. Now he won't be forgotten."
Coullard Dziedzic first approached Larson to request a portion of Route 2 be named in her son's honor in October 2008. Larson's office worked with state Senator Gary LeBeau, D-East Hartford, and state Rep. Henry Genga, D-East Hartford, to make it happen. The state Legislature approved the request last session.
