Bridgeport Man Accused of Stealing Puppy

Onnie Canady is accused of stealing an English bulldog worth $4,000.

Police have arrested a man accused of stealing puppies from a Westport pet store.

Onnie Canady, 50, of Bridgeport, is accused of stealing a $4,000 English bulldog from Puppies of Westport on July 9 after trying to use a credit card that was no good, according to police.

Canady was arrested on Monday and has been charged with third-degree larceny, risk of injury to a minor, forgery, misuse of plates, illegal use of a credit card, forgery of symbols of value and reckless driving.

Police said the puppy was found at a home in West Haven and a resident told police that he had bought the puppy in Bridgeport for $2,000, according to police.
