Police are investigating after a man was shot on Palisade Avenue in Bridgeport this afternoon, authorities said.

According to police, 31-year-old Deveral Webley told police he was in Bridgeport helping his mother move to California when he was shot in the leg.

Webley told police he was walking down Palisade Avenue around noon on Tuesday when he heard what he believed to be firecrackers. Immediately after, he felt pain above his right ankle.

He walked himself to Bridgeport Hospital where they confirmed that he had been shot.

Webley has an address listed in Bridgeport, but told police that he currently lives in Baltimore, Md.

He told police he doesn’t know of anyone who would want to hurt him, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.

If anyone has any information regarding the shooting, call the Bridgeport Police Department at 203-581-5100.
