Bridgeport police have released video of a serious scooter crash in the city in the hopes that it will encourage riders to wear helmets to protect themselves.
City of Bridgeport spokesman Av Harris says on Wednesday around 3:30 p.m. , 20-year-old Luis Colon was riding his scooter without a helmet when an SUV collided with him at the intersection of Pearl Street and Orchard Street. Colon was transported to Bridgeport Hospital with serious injuries. At last check, he remained in critical condition.
The driver of the SUV remained on scene. The accident is under investigation.
Police say Colon is lucky to be alive and hope that the dramatic video will act as a warning to others of the risks of riding without a helmet.
