Logging Machine Sparked Harwinton Brush Fire: Officials

A logging machine sparked a brush fire on Bristol Water Company property in Harwinton on Monday afternoon and firefighters were able to get it under control quickly.

Officials said crews were logging along 30 Blueberry Hill Road and a machine sparked the fire, and set a tire and truck on the machine on fire as well.

East Litchfield firefighters also responded to provide mutual aid.

The fire is out, but crews are being extra caution because of the dry conditions.

The forest fire danger for today is listed as very high, according to officials from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the state does not allow open burning when the fire danger is elevated.
