Brush Fire in Meriden Out

The fire department responded to a brush fire near Hanover Street.

The Meriden fire department responded to a brush fire that burned about 500 square feet of land near Hanover Street and Hanover Pond.

It was out as of 12:30 p.m., and firefighters were extinguishing hot spots.

There is a red flag warning for the entire state until 8 p.m. because of dry and windy conditions.
Burning is not allowed on days when the fire danger is high, very high or extreme, even for residents who have permits, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

No one was hurt and the cause is not yet known.
