Burglars Broke in Through Roof of AT&T Store in Newington: Cops

Police arrested two men accused breaking into the AT&T Wireless story on the Berlin Turnpike in Newington through the roof.

Police responded to a burglar alarm at AT&T, at 3243 Berlin Turnpike, at 3:45 a.m. and found one man outside. The other was hiding in the ceiling, police said.

Evidence at the scene indicated that men broke in though a hatchway in the roof.

Police said they recovered a "large quantity" of cell phones and tablets believed to have been stolen from display counters. The store is closed until further notice.

Carlos Cartagena, 30, of Newington,Angel Diaz, 30, of New Britain, were charged with burglary in the third degree, conspiracy to commit burglary in the third degree, larceny in the third degree, conspiracy to commit larceny in the third degree, criminal mischief in the first degree, criminal trespass in the second degree and possession of burglar’s tools.

Diaz was also charged with interferring with an officer.

Both were detained on a $100,000 cash/surety bond.
