From rockets to rock, Eric Knight is trying to help as the Gulf of Mexico sends oil toward shore from the BP blowout.

The rocket scientist ran into redtape when he gave BP an engineering solution, but with music, Knight's working with Apple's Itunes service.

"One night the idea just popped into my head and here we are," he said, in an East Hartford recording studio.

The title track of Give to the Gulf is an appropriately Cajun number, written by Paul Lombardo and Tom Rizzo of L and R Productions.

"I've heard from several people already, young and old, that they can't get the song out of their head.  We hope that that's exactly the case," said Rizzo.

"But more importantly we hope that it motivates the individuals to purchase it, off of itunes, knowing that the dollars are going to go directly to help the people in the Gulf that need the help.

Give to the Gulf.org has eleven songs available for purchase.  The proceeds go to the United Way Gulf Recovery Fund, said Knight.
