One student after another returned from campus to apartments on East Street, passing the scene of an assault on a Central Connecticut State University student about 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
One actually saw the victim lying on the sidewalk of Paul Manafort Drive after the attack.
"The police were here, but the ambulance wasn’t, " said Ashley Locke. "And he just passed out because he was bleeding so much. It was awful. It’s crazy, it was daylight out, it was like 5: o'clock, there were people everywhere."
The victim got into an altercation with his assailant off campus and ended up downhill from East Hall, a CCSU maintenance facility.
According to a crime alert CCSU emailed to students, the victim told police he was beaten by two men and one of them had a gun.
"That's what the victim said. I don't know that he had a gun," said Matthew Liggio. "I don't feel unsafe."
Authorities are investigating, asking for anyone who knows anything about the assault to call police.
