CT Gas Prices Approach $1.99

Gas prices continue to to drop in Connecticut.

At least one gas station, the Mercury on the Silas Deane Highway, is already selling unleaded gasoline for less than $2.

Chris Herb with the Connecticut Energy Marketers Association said increased competition from the Middle East has led to better prices for consumers.

“A year ago, OPEC, specifically Saudi Arabia decided to compete with the United States over crude oil prices and that competition continues," he said.
Connecticut hasn't seen an across the board average gas price of less than two dollars since 2009.

Herb adds that gas stations may make less money per gallon right now, but said overall trips could mean more sales in other places.

“We’re seeing volume pick up but we’re also seeing inside store sales pick up so some of the money people are saving at the pump, they’re actually going inside the store and buying a few extra items which is good for the economy," Herb said.
