Car Hits Bus in Manchester, Driver Flees Scene

Four children aboard a school bus during a collision Tuesday in Manchester were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

A driver rear-ended the bus close to 5 p.m. and fled the scene, according to Manchester Fire Chief Bob Bycholski.

There were eight children, 8 to 9 years old, on the bus at the time, he said. Four of them sustained minor injuries. They were taken to an area hospital for evaluations and were scheduled to be released later in the day.

Three children were released to the custody of their parents and police took another child home, Bycholski said.

The road remained open after the crash.

The Hartford Courant reported that police have charged the driver in the hit-and-run. Manchester police said more information will be released soon.

More updates will be provided when they become available.
