A car slammed into a fire hydrant on Airport Road in Hartford Thursday, creating a watery mess in the area.

The accident shut down the westbound lane of Airport Road at Ledyard Road, according to police.

Water flowed up and down Airport Road for a short time. Crews from the Metropolitian District Commission were at the scene to fix the hydrant.

Sand trucks were being brought it because police were concerned the wet roads might turn icy in the frigid temperatures.

No estimated time for repair has been released.
