Carbon Monoxide Scare at Vernon Apartment Building

Vernon Police evacuated an apartment building after residents complained of carbon monoxide poisoning symptoms.

A carbon monoxide scare forced residents out of a Vernon apartment building Friday night.

Vernon Police responded to 133 West Main Street where they found two residents suffering from headache and fatigue, symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning.  Six of the residents pet birds were also found dead that day in their apartment.

The entire building was evacuated but tests showed no elevated levels of carbon monoxide.  One person was brought to Rockville General Hospital for treatment.

The residents complained they were without heat and hot water for two days, and one renter was using a kerosene heater to stay warm.

Vernon firefighters ventilated the building and residents were allowed to return to their apartments.d

The incident is under investigation by the fire marshal's office.
