A disturbing discovery was made on an Oxford street over the weekend.

Authorities found a cat’s severed head in the middle of Moose Hill Road.

Another cat’s head was found on the same street seven to eight months ago. Then, authorities said a coyote was responsible, since they’re so common in the area.

Oxford Animal Control described the wound as “clean-cut,” and said it doesn’t appear another animal was responsible. They now think a person is responsible.

Town officials are disturbed by the findings.

“If it is to be believed that a clean-cut did come from an individual, then I think that individual is a sick individual,” said Oxford’s First Selectman George Temple.

Residents of Moose Hill Road said they’re concerned about the safety of their animals.

“I worry that some sicko’s out there, that’s going to try to come in and take an animal,” said Janetta Dobler.

Other residents in the area said they’re disturbed by the discovery.

“I can’t believe anyone would do that to an animal,” said Donna Stone.

At this point, investigators haven’t determined whether a person severed the cat’s head, but First Selectman Temple, said authorities are looking into the incident.

“Let me assure you, there will be a thorough investigation,” Temple said.

Officials from the Oxford Police Department said they’re beginning to look at the evidence and wouldn't comment this early on in the investigation.
