The chemical that spilled at The Ethel Walker School in Simsbury on Thursday morning, prompting response from emergency officials, was not a harmful substance.
A teacher noticed the spill in a science laboratory on the third floor as she entered the classroom and notified school officials, who immediately evacuated the building and notified authorities.
Emergency responders, including some wearing full protective suits, responded. As of 1:15 p.m., the scene was clear and the spill had been cleaned.
No one was injured and classes were held outside and in other areas of the campus that had been deemed safe.
The Ethel Walker School, located at 230 Bushy Hill Road, is a college preparatory, boarding and day school for girls in grades six through 12.
