Community Support Pours in for Local Law Enforcement

With high tensions continuing after several police-involved shootings throughout the nation, Connecticut communities are reaching out to show their local law enforcement support.

Since the morning after the attack in Dallas, people have been showing up at police headquarters in Willimantic with a simple message: thank you.

Alan and Tracey Dube showed up Sunday with three dozen cookies they’d baked for the officers.

“There are people that appreciated the police,” Alan Dube said.

For Tracey Dube her visit had another special meaning.

Sunday was her father’s birthday and just a few months ago he passed away despite a valiant effort by police and other first responders.

“The police presence in the town all the time is phenomenal. We just feel safe,” she said.

Corporal Stanley Parizo, Jr. says the department has received everything from baked goods to pizza to sports drinks.

“There is some hope that is coming out of this tragedy which is important. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the Dallas officers who are left in the wake of this senseless crime,” Parizo said.

Departments in other towns have seen the same outpouring of support.

In Hamden, pizzas to plants have been dropped off. In Torrington, gifts and words of encouragement. Any many other departments have reported people just dropping by to say thank you.

Police say while there has been overwhelming support they are also being extra vigilant because there is always the concern about copycats after Dallas.
