Connecticut Business Owner Matt Bevin Wins Kentucky Governor's Race

Connecticut business owner Matt Bevin has been elected as Kentucky’s governor.

Bevin has owned the Connecticut-based “Bevin Brothers” since 2011, a bell manufacturing company that has been operated by his family since in 1832.

The company is located in East Hampton and is also known as “Bell town USA.”

Bevin winning the Governor's seat in Kentucky is something some residents said they are proud of on Wednesay.

“I think it’s awesome, I think people tend not to look at small towns thinking that great things can happen in small towns and we’ve had a lot of great people come out of this town. We had Governor O’Neil and then we had him,” East Hampton resident Heather March said.

About two years ago, a massive fire ripped through the bell factory. The company opened a temporary location in town.

With Bevin’s win, the question is: what’s next for the only bell factory left in the nation?

East Hampton Town Manager Michael Maniscalco said he corresponds with Bevin and he hasn’t mentioned anything about moving the company.

“I don’t see the company leaving from my experience working with Mr. Bevin. He definitely has a very large connection with his roots and his ancestry,” said Maniscalco.

Some business owners said the aftermath from the fire proved to them “Bevin Brothers” wasn’t going anywhere.

“All those people got their jobs back,” said Richard Mooley.

NBC Connecticut reached out to Bevin. We did not hear from him by news time.
