Connecticut Family Kicked Out of National Park

A North Stonington family’s vacation was cut short because of the government shutdown.

A Connecticut couple and their four children are among those being kicked out of a campground in New Hampshire's White Mountain National Forest in advance of the busy holiday weekend.

Sam Emert, of North Stonington, Connecticut, said he and his family arrived at the Dolly Copp campground at the base of Mount Washington on Wednesday to begin their five-day reservation, but were told on Thursday they had to be out by noon.

Emert said he paid $100 online at the camp's reservation website and received no notifications their reservation was jeopardized by the federal government shut-down. He said he didn't think it would be an issue until they arrived on Wednesday.

Emert said he anticipates having trouble finding another campsite for the holiday weekend -- New Hampshire's third busiest tourist weekend.
