Connecticut Police to Attend Funeral for Slain Massachusetts Officer

A funeral Mass is planned today for an Auburn, Massachusetts police officer who was shot and killed during a traffic stop and police from departments in Connecticut will be attending the service.

Auburn Officer Ronald Tarentino Jr., a 42-year-old son of a police officer, left a wife and three children.

The funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Charlton, followed by a burial at Greenville Baptist Church Cemetery in Tarentino's hometown of Leicester.

Tarentino was shot in the back by Jorge Zambrano during a traffic stop early Sunday, authorities said.

Zambrano was later killed after he fired at police from a bedroom closet inside a duplex apartment, injuring a state trooper, state officials said.

Zambrano had a long criminal history, and some have criticized the judicial system for allowing him to be free after a string of recent arrests and repeated probation violations, according to officials.
