Connecticut, Tenet Agree to Renew Talks for Hospital Deal

Tenet Healthcare Corp. has accepted Gov. Dannel Malloy's offer to renew negotiations to acquire five Connecticut hospitals in Bristol, Manchester, Vernon and Waterbury.

The Republican-American reports that Tenet CEO Trevor Fetter told Malloy he’ll walk away a second time if the company cannot get a satisfactory agreement.

The Office of Health Care Access set 47 conditions on Tenet's acquisition of Waterbury Hospital and the attorney general's office recommended another 21. Fetter said most were “excessively onerous” and abandoned its plans late last year.

Tenet, which is based in Dallas, objected to a requirement the company pay for an independent monitor to ensure it followed each of OHCA's 47 conditions for five years and a prohibition against reducing or moving inpatient and outpatient services for five years.
