A Bit of Brit in Connecticut

If the Royal Wedding frenzy has you yearning for a little taste of London, there are a couple of local spots that may have just what you are looking for.

At the Penny Ha’Penny shop in Wilton, it’s a treasure chest full of British flare. From trinkets to tasty treats, even fine china tea sets with the Buckingham Palace approved design.

Owners Penny Gerstein and Eve Raymond said the concept for the store was simple. "We kept talking about how we wanted a shop and I knew I wanted the food and she wanted the gifts and 25 years later, this is where we are," said Gerstein.

The store specializes in imported British goods, and with the hoopla surrounding the wedding of William and Kate ,they say they have been busy.

In for some last minute items was Kate Weber, a frequent customer with a true royal connection. "Friends of ours suggested we have a party to celebrate William and Kate’s wedding because, my husband is William and I am Kate. They didn’t even know, but Friday is our wedding anniversary."

Weber is not the only one with wedding fever.  In scenic Woodstock is Mrs. Bridge’s Pantry, a cozy tearoom and store complete with teas, soaps, and yes, William and Kate kitchen ware.

Co-owner Sue Swenson has invited visitors to dine  from their special menu fit for the monarchy this weekend. The featured item? Prince William’s wedding cake made from traditional British chocolate cookies.

"It’s the cake that Princess Diana would make for her children, so I think it’s like a little connection to Princess Diana for his wedding," explained Swenson.
