Construction Worker Seriously Injured While Learning Scaffolding Safety

A construction worker was seriously injured on his first day at work after falling from scaffolding in Hartford late afternoon Thursday.

The 30-year-old man fell two to four stories while on the job at a vacant building on Albany Avenue.

The contractor at the scene said this was the man's first day on the job and he was being taught scaffolding safety when he fell.

Police initially reported that the victim was conscious and alert at the scene, but was taken to Saint Francis Hospital for treatment.

Authorities later said the victim was in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

His condition was upgraded from critical to guarded on Thursday night, police said.

The man's name has not been released.
