A garage fire on White Birch Road in New Canaan on Thursday afternoon started when a car struck a house, according to a news release from New Canaan police.

A 1991 Cadillac Brougham struck the house just before 1:30 p.m., according to police. The vehicle caught fire and the flames spread to the garage.

When police arrived, the 34-year-old man who had been driving was out of the vehicle. He told officers that the accelerator stuck and he was unable to stop the car.

Police said the house was occupied at the time of the crash and the resident was not injured.

The driver sustained injuries that are not life-threatening and he was transported to Norwalk Hospital.

Police are investigating the crash.
