Trucks Collide on I-95 North in Stonington

A fiery truck crash closed the northbound lanes of I-95 in Stonington for hours on Saturday.

According to police, one tractor trailer rear-ended a second tractor trailer near exit 90 around 4:30 a.m.

The cab of the second truck caught fire just after the accident.

The truck's driver, Robert Ward, 45, of Springfield, Missouri, was seriously injured and taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London, before being transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital by Life Star helicopter.

A passenger in Ward's truck was treated for non-life threatening injuries.  The two people in the first truck, Gilbert and Jennifer Rouhana, of Fall River, Massachusetts, were not injured.

Police were able to open one lane of the highway around 9:30 a.m., but said it would be several more hours before the highway completely reopened.
