Teen Dead After Crash in Durham: State Police

State police said the car had been stolen from a home in Madison.

A 17-year-old Hartford boy is dead after a driver crashed a stolen vehicle in Durham and state police said the driver had been fleeing from Madison police who had ended the chase in their town.

Police identified the Hartford teen who died as 17-year-old Luis Martinez.

He was in a 2016 Mercedes Benz GL550 when the driver lost control on Route 79 in Durham just before 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, went off the road and flipped the Mercedes over, according to state police. He was thrown from the vehicle during the crash and he was transported to Middlesex Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not identified the driver of the vehicle.

State police said Madison police were chasing the car, which had been stolen from Island Avenue in Madison, and the chase ended in Madison. They were no longer chasing the car when the crash happened.

The office of the Chief Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy.
