A crash closed part of Route 154 in Old Saybrook on Tuesday afternoon.
An SUV took down several utility poles in the Cornfield Point section of town, according to the Old Saybrook Fire Department.
The accident knocked out power to the area and it is expected to be out for several hours, fire officials said.
One person was taken to the hospital.
