Driver Injured in Tolland-Vernon Crash

Route 31 in Vernon was closed for hours at the Interstate 84 overpass on Friday morning after a tractor-trailer carrying bottled water overturned.

Police said Holden Lee Coston, 58, of Fayettsville, North Carolina, was driving the truck when it went off the road on Interstate 84 around 1:31 a.m, hit a guardrail, went across the overpass to Route 31, rolled off the bridge and landed on the embankment below.

Route 31 was closed because power lines were across the road.

The Tolland and Vernon fire departments, as well as Vernon and State Police are at the scene. 

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection responded because of a fuel spill.

Police said Coston was transported to St. Francis Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. He was an infraction for driving in improper lane.

This was one of several tractor-trailer crashes this morning.

Tractor-trailers jackknifed on highways in Windsor, Westport and Cromwell, causing lane closures.

In Windsor, a tractor-trailer jackknifed on Interstate 91 South between exits 35A and 34. The crash was reported just before 2 a.m. Two right lanes were closed, but the scene has since cleared.

In Westport, a tractor-trailer jackknifed on I-95 North between exits 18 and 19. The crash happened around 5:15 a.m. The right and center lanes were closed, but it has since cleared .

In Cromwell, a tractor-trailer jackknifed on I-91 North between exits 22 and 23 around 5:20 a.m. One lane is open.

In Naugatuck, a box truck was involved in a on Route 8 Southbound between Exits 25 and 24 at 6:13 a.m.. The right lane was closed, but the scene has since cleared.
