Crashes, Water Main Break Slow Morning Commutes

    Several crashes and a water main break caused problems on Connecticut roads on Friday morning.

    In Granby, a car struck a utility pole on Route 189, snapping two poles snapping and bringing down wires.

    PART OF ROUTE 189 WAS CLOSED AFTER A CAR LOST CONTROL THIS MORNING AND HIT TWO UTILITY POLES. ONE MAN WAS IN THE CAR, BUT DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE SERIOUSLY INJURED. (Published Friday, Aug. 27, 2010)

    One man was in the car and walked to a nearby home to call 911, police said.
    Police said that Lifestar was called but canceled. Route 198 was closed, from East Street to Wells Road.

    Just before 7:30 a.m., a crash closed the right lane of Interstate 84 West, between Exits 17 and 16 in Southbury. Officials said the crash involved a tractor-trailer and some other vehicles.

    In Vernon, West Street was closed at Grand Avenue and Regan Road after a car struck a hit telephone pole.

    In Middletown, a water main break closed Hunting Hill Road, from Russell to Newtown streets.
