Bridgeport fireboats are converging on the area of the Stratford Avenue Bridge, where an abandoned factory caught fire twice Friday, sending plumes of smoke up over Interstate 95.
Route 130/Stratford Avenue is closed in both directions between Kossuth and Water streets while crews battle the blaze, according to the Bridgeport Fire Department and state Department of Transportation.
Footage from the scene shows thick black smoke rising up in to the air. The smoke is visible from the highway.
Bridgeport fire officials said flames first ignited Friday morning and were quickly snuffed out. The fire rekindled later on and spread.
Crews are fighting the fire from outside the vacant building because the fire department does not feel safe to enter, according to officials at the scene.
