Cause of Fire at New Britain Plant Is Under Investigation

The cause of a fire at an oil treatment plant on Whiting Street in New Britain that sent two firefighters to the hospital on Monday afternoon is under investigation.

The fire was at the New Britain Heat Treating Corporation. Since there was oil in the building, firefighters fought the flames defensively with fire suppression foam. Officials were also concerned that the roof of the building might collapse.

According to fire officials, the fire started shortly before 4 p.m. and it was under control at 10 p.m. The firefighters who were injured had skin irritations from chemicals, officials said.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection were notified.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
