Substance at New Haven Hazmat Situation Appears to Be Water

A substance that prompted a hazmat situation in New Haven appears to be just water, but testing is underway to be sure, fire officials said.

New Haven's fire chief told NBC Connecticut that the department responded to a wellness check at a house on Rosettee Street between Arthur and Button streets.

The fire chief said the man in the home was allegedly threatening to hurt himself, but the man was not home when crews responded to the scene.

When crews walked into the home they found potentially concerning liquid on the second floor and called for hazmat crews to respond. However, later the fire chief said the barrels are filled with what appears to be water and they will be testing to confirm.

The man returned to the home while crews were at the scene and is being interviewed.
