Crews Pull Person from Gardner Lake in Salem

Crews responded to Gardner Lake in Salem after a person fell through the ice on Tuesday.

Firefighters arriving at the scene just before 1 p.m., found a man through the ice about 50 yards from shore.

Witnesses told fire officials the man was in the water up to his neck for about 10 minutes.

Rescue crews, along with some good Samaritans, helped the victim out of the water, according to Salem fire chief Rick Martin.

Emergency responders evaluated the man, but he refused treatment.

Martin warns that despite the recent cold weather, the ice is not safe enough to walk on.
