A search and rescue operation is over after an empty kayak was found off Cornfield Point in Old Saybrook Tuesday.
Fire officials initially said it was unclear if someone fell into the water, or who owns the kayak. Police, fire and the U.S. Coast Guard searched the water as a precaution and officials from the Coast Guard now say the boat could have come from anywhere and there are no markings on it, so there is no one to notify.
Officials ask that anyone knows who the kayak belongs to call Old Saybrook police at 860-395-3142.
The fire department encourages boat owners to write a name and phone number on their vessels so authorities can contact owners quickly in these situations.
