Police are investigating an armed robbery in Cromwell.

Cromwell police are looking for the man who robbed the Sunoco gas station at 164 West St. on Monday afternoon.

Just after 12:30 p.m., a man in a black hooded sweatshirt walked into the gas station, showed a small black handgun and demanded money from the register, police said.

The man emptied the register and ran off, police said.

Police and Chino, a K9, followed the track to the back of the station, into a small wooded area and into the parking lot of an adjacent business, but the track ended there, police said.

An employee of that abutting business told police the robber came out of the wooded area, got into a parked car and sped off, police said.

Anyone with information that could help  police in the investigation should call Cromwell police at 860-635-2256.
