East Hampton Police arrested 23-year-old John Sialis-Giagios of Manchester, for his alleged involvement in a hit-and-run accident that left a bicyclist in critical condition.

Police say the bicyclist, 24-year-old William Sigman of Portland, was struck from behind by Sialis-Giagios' car on Main street around 3:28 a.m. Saturday. Sigman was taken to Marlborough Clinic where he was later transported to Hartford Hospital by Life Star.

Officers were able to identify the suspect's car as a 2007-2009 Mazda 3 based on the evidence left at the scene, said police.

An off-duty East Hartford Police Lieutenant saw the Mazda in a lot next to an industrial building on Watrous Street in East Hampton and contacted East Hampton police, according to officials.

Lt. Todd Hanlon of East Hartford Police was notified about the suspect vehicle description by his cousin, an East Hampton Police Officer. Sialis-Giagios was shortly found and arrested. Police said he admitted to hitting William Sigman with his car.

Sialis-Giagios is charged with assault in the 2nd degree with a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident. His bond was set at $50,000. He is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Feb. 28.
