DEP Uses Social Media for Beach & Park Updates

If you're thinking about heading to a state park, but worried it might be too crowded, all you have to do is check Twitter.

The state Department of Environmental Protection is now using social media to provide you with the latest information about the parks – including the availability of parking spaces at the three major state beaches.

Twitter will also let you know about traffic at entrance gates, the status of swim areas and even special events at Hammonasset Beach State Park, Rocky Neck State Park, and Sherwood Island State Park.

Visitors can follow the three parks on Twitter:

The DEP has also established a Facebook page for the parks. The page features a variety of information about all of Connecticut’s state parks, including special events and featured activities. You can check it out here.
