A suspected drunk driver slammed into a Hamden police cruiser Saturday.

According to police, Officer Jennifer Gaynor was investigating a minor car accident on Dixwell Avenue at the corner of Benham Street around 2:45 a.m. Saturday. While she was sitting in her cruiser with the lights on, a car driven by Thomas Urbinati drove into Gaynor's cruiser, police said.

Urbinati, 30, of West Haven, was well over three times the legal limit, according to police. He was also found with two pills identified as Clonazepam, police said. He was charged with DUI, possession of narcotics and operation without proof of insurance. Urbinati is scheduled to appear in court November 2.

Officer Gaynor was transported to the Saint Raphael's campus of Yale-New Haven Hospital to be treated for injuries. Her injuries were described as non-life threatening.
