Dad, Daughter Safe After East Hartford Blaze

East Hartford emergency crews battled a blaze and rescued a woman from a sinkhole.
A 92-year-old man and his 46-year-old daughter are in the hospital but safe after a fire in East Haven on Wednesday morning. Their two dogs, however, have not been found.
The fire department started battling the blaze at 108 Sisson St. just before 4 a.m.
After determining that everyone got out safely, the fire crews’ biggest concern was to keep the fire from spreading to neighboring homes because of the close proximity.
William Martinez said the man and his daughter escaped the fire with just the clothes on their backs.
“We woke up, heard the screaming and yelling (and) helped (the) best we could with them,” Martinez said. “The lady who lives there brought her inside. She was screaming and yelling."
The East Hartford fire department arrived at the scene within five minutes of the original call and the home was already engulfed in flames.
Asst. Fire Chief, William Perez, said they initially were forced to pull out firefighters because of the amount of fire.
The residents were taken to St. Francis hospital as a precaution.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
