DeNiro Flick Shot in Connecticut Opens Nationwide

The latest Hollywood flick to use Connecticut as a backdrop hits theaters today. 

"Everybody's Fine," starring Robert De Niro, Drew Barrymore and Kate Beckinsale employed several locals as extras and was partially filmed in Cheshire.

The Meriden Record-Journal reports the movie has scenes that were shot at the Cheshire Correctional Institution's unused North Block and at Bradley International Airport in May of 2008.

Robert Muir of Portland worked in the background during several De Niro scenes and says he was close enough to touch the star. For seven hours of work, Muir was fed, given $215 after taxes and, "I had a good time," he said.

In the movie, De Niro plays a widower who decides to take a road trip to reconnect with his grown children, only to discovers that their lives are far from perfect.

According to Department of Economic and Community Development spokesman David Treadwell, $23 million was spent in the state related to the movie's production. Companies spending more than $1 million are eligible for a 30 percent tax credit, Treadwell told the Record-Journal, but he could not confirm that credits had been issued for "Everyone's Fine."
