Dean to Announce as GOP Candidate for A.G.
Martha Dean announces candidacy for Connecticut Attorney General.
Attorney Martha Dean is kicking off her second campaign for Connecticut Attorney General. In 2002, the Avon Republican ran against incumbent Richard Blumenthal and made the strongest showing of any Republican who has run against the longtime A.G. over his 20 years in office.
This time around, Blumnethal is out of the picture, running for the U.S. Senate seat that Sen. Chris Dodd will vacate. Dean said she's running because Connecticut is entering a full-blown crisis.
"For the people of Connecticut, the scope of this crisis means that the quality of the people who we elect this year is more important than ever. We are in an economic crisis, a cultural crisis, and a leadership crisis," Dean said.
Republicans who have already announced for the A.G. seat include attorney John Pavia and state Sen. Andrew Roraback.
On the Democratic side, Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz has announced her candidacy, but her campaign is bogged down in a legal dispute over whether she fulfills the constitutional requirement that a candidate must have been in the active practice of law for at least 10 years.
The other Democratic candidates include former state Sen. George Jepsen and state Rep. Cameron Staples.
