Democratic Party Chair Will Not Seek Re-election

Longtime Connecticut Democratic Party chairman Nancy DiNardo says she will not seek re-election as the party's leader.

DiNardo said in an email released Friday that she instead will run for vice chairman.

DiNardo has served in the party's top job for a decade. During that time, Democrats elected, and this year re-elected, Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy. The party also controls the General Assembly, all state constitutional offices and all the state's U.S. Senate and House seats.

DiNardo credited party members with helping to "put Connecticut on the national map and remain the bluest state in the country."

She is throwing her support to Nick Balletto, who currently is vice chairman of the Connecticut Democrats. The Democratic State Central Committee will meet next month to choose new leaders.
