Dentists Give Kids Cash for Candy

Dentists want kids to keep their teeth, so they are offering cash for candy.
If there is a child in your household, all the candy from Saturday night is more than a temptation, it’s also a dental nightmare in the making, so some local dentists are buying the sugary sweets back from you.
Blue Back Dental, in West Hartford, is encouraging children to give up some of their surplus sweets by paying $5 for every pound of unopened Halloween candy and also giving you a dental goody bag.
The buyback is happening from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the candy will be donated to area food banks.
Posner and Turkus DDS, at 255 North Main in Bristol, is offering $1 per pound from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and handing out glowing toothbrushes.
On Sunday, Dr. Jeff LaMura’s dental office bought back uneaten Halloween candy with raffle tickets for a chance on a Nintendo Wii, an iPod and Webkinzs, the New Haven Register reports.
The candy will be donated to troops in Iraq.
On the likely chance that a lot of that candy is already gone, Small Smiles Dental Center, of Hartford, is offering free dental screenings at 272 Franklin Ave. on Monday, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Dentists warn that too much exposure to the sweet stuff can lead to tooth decay, especially in younger children because children get teeth until age 13 and are highly vulnerable to decay until they're around 15.
For any kid who’s afraid of the dentist, cash is surely an incentive to bring them into the office.
