Dirt Bikes Stolen from Thomaston Business

Police in Thomaston are investigating after someone stole tens of thousands of dollars worth of dirt bikes from a local business.

When Jason Pinette received the call from Thomaston Police that someone broke into his business early Friday morning, his heart dropped.

He saw the main window of Roost Power Sports on South Main Street smashed and seven 2016 Husqvarna dirt bikes missing.

"Our show room, the whole first row of motorcycles was missing. Huge pit in my stomach at that point," said Pinette.

Pinette showed a large gash by the window, which he says is where the thieves used a hammer to break the window before grabbing the bikes and rolling them outside into a waiting truck.

The Thomaston native estimates the theft and damage cost him $80,000-$100,000.

"This is like a home to me, so something like that happening, it's like somebody broke into my own house and robbed me," said Pinette.

He says security footage from a nearby business shows seven men meeting up and taking off with the motorcycles in under 20 minutes. At this time, police have not released that video.

"It was definitely a professional job, and they'd probably been on the premises several times, casing it out," said Pinette.

Pinette says the thieves even disconnected the alarm system, knowing where to go and what to do.

"Small business in Connecticut is not easy, so something like this really hits hard," said Pinette.

A $10,000 reward is being offered for the capture and conviction of those responsible. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Thomaston police.
