Police Identify Man Found Dead in Middlefield Lake After Boating Accident

Police have identified the body of a 52-year-old man divers pulled from the waters of Beseck Lake in Middlefield while responding to a boating accident Tuesday evening, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Gregory Davoren, 52, of Middletown was killed in the boating accident.

Emergency responders were called to the lake around 5:30 p.m. after receiving the report of a motorboat accident, DEEP officials said. Witnesses told them a man jumped out of a boat and never surfaced.

"The people he was with saw him go under and not resurface," explained Col. Kyle Overturf, of the DEEP Environmental Conservation Police.

Two other people on board the 20-foot Bayliner, Santo Bazzano, 47, of Hartford, and Thomas Parente, 53, of Middletown, were unharmed.

A state police dive team pulled the Davoren's body from the water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It's not clear why the man jumped or if he was wearing a life jacket.

Authorities are investigating the incident.
