Doctor, Practice Agree to Pay $37,000 Over False Claims

A Connecticut physician and the practice he founded have agreed to pay nearly $37,000 to settle allegations they submitted false claims to Medicare.

Connecticut U.S. Attorney Deirdre M. Daly announced the civil settlement agreement on Wednesday. Daly says Dr. Anton Fry and his practice, Danbury-based CPC Associates, have agreed to pay a total of $36,704.

The government alleges that Fry and his practice submitted improper claims to Medicare for psychiatric services that were provided over the phone rather than in person in violation of certain Medicare rules.

The agreed-upon payment covers conduct between January 2009 through June 2015.

Daly says a former patient of Fry's and a billing company will receive a total of $6,239 from the settlement proceeds for alerting authorities to Fry's actions.
